A guide to Practicing Ujjayi breath

Updated: Mar 9, 2022

Ujjayi breath is the name of a pranayama or breath practice which focuses on deep abdominal breathing. Normally when we breathe, it comes from the chest and the capacity to breathe is very limited.

Learning the practice of Ujjayi breath allows for a deeper and more controlled breath right down in the belly.

It supports the bodies regulation of the parasympathetic nervous system, allowing us to move from a 'fight or flight', to the 'rest and digest' of the body. In Forrest yoga, Ujjayi breath is used throughout the practice. It feeds us, enabling you to hold the postures for longer or go to deeper into a pose.
